Drax Energy tariffs, prices and reviews
If you’re considering switching business energy suppliers, this guide covers everything you need to know about Drax Energy. From who Drax is and what they offer, to their tariffs, and how to get a quote with Bionic.
Who are Drax Energy?
Drax Energy is a UK-based electricity and gas supplier focusing primarily on business and corporate energy customers. They are part of the wider Drax Group, a major energy company known for operating one of the UK’s largest power stations - Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire.

Who owns Drax Group?
Drax Energy is owned by Drax Group, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange that is part of the FTSE 250 Index, which includes some of the UK’s largest businesses. It was originally founded in the 1970s and has since evolved from a coal-powered generator into one of the UK’s leading renewable energy producers.
What services does Drax Energy offer?
Unlike some of our other business energy suppliers, Drax exclusively supplies large business energy customers, rather than micro businesses and SMEs.
Their services include electricity and gas supply, renewable energy options (focusing on biomass, hydro, and pumped storage generation), energy management tools and smart metering, and sustainability consulting. Key features of their contracts include flexible energy procurement, carbon offset options, renewable energy certificates, new connections, real-time usage insights and smart metering.
Drax Energy tariffs
Drax offers large business customers a range of bespoke energy tariffs to suit different operational needs and market strategies.
Flex plans
The Drax flex tariff gives high-consumption users (over 2GWh annually) control over their energy purchasing, with flexibility to buy and sell power in response to market changes. There are two options available:
- Flex Complete: This is one of Drax’s flexible tariff plans that fixes most third-party costs (TPCs). It allows businesses to focus on energy trading without worrying about non-commodity costs.
- Flex Clarity: This is Drax’s second flexible tariff. On this tariff, businesses will pass through most TPCs, including TNUoS and DUoS charges, and it provides the clearest view of your trading activities.
Fixed plans
Drax fixed tariffs suit medium to lower power consumers using over 30MWh annually who seek budget certainty. These tariffs provide stable energy rates, allowing businesses to lock in prices and protect against market fluctuations. There are 3 options available:
- Fixed Complete: Drax’s fixed tariff plan locks in most third-party costs, providing businesses with a stable unit rate for power across the contract, ideal for budget certainty.
- Fixed Clarity: This plan fixes the unit rate but passes through most third-party costs, letting businesses benefit from current rates. It is suitable for those who prefer flexibility.
- Fixed Threshold: This option fixes third-party costs up to a set threshold, with costs beyond that passed through. It is ideal for businesses seeking budget stability with an annual adjustment.
Drax CPPA (corporate power purchase agreement)
A corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) is a long-term contract between a business and an energy provider, enabling the company to purchase electricity directly from renewable sources at a pre-agreed price.
Drax offers CPPAs to large businesses, providing direct access to renewable energy generated from sources like biomass and hydroelectric power. By choosing a CPPA with Drax, businesses can integrate renewable energy into their operations, contributing to carbon reduction efforts.
