Legally, if you employ anyone, you will need employers’ liability insurance.

If you’re a student helping out salon or doing an apprenticeship. You still need to think about public liability insurance, especially if you’re practicing on clients. 

If you are a salon owner and employ trainees, you must tell your broker you have students or apprentices working for you to ensure you’re correctly covered. Some insurers may have certain guidelines you need to follow to keep your insurance valid - like telling the client that the trainees are helping out with their treatments.

You don’t need to be a member of any guilds or associations in order to take out insurance. But keep in mind you need to hold the qualifications for your work in order for your insurance cover to be valid.
