Why do dentists need insurance?

In the UK, employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement for most businesses who have workers, including dental practices. This can help cover compensation claims if a staff member is injured or becomes ill due to their work. But practices can choose additional cover for broader protection.

If something goes wrong, such as a fire, flood, the right insurance could help cover repair costs and lost income while your practice gets back on its feet. It can also help cover claims if someone slips or trips on a wet floor. Without insurance, these costs would need to be paid out of your own pocket.

How much does dental practice insurance cost?

Dental practice insurance could cost from around 62p a day*

Your dental insurance costs can vary depending on several factors unique to your business, including:

Dentist Insurance FAQs

What is covered and not covered by dental practice insurance?

Standard dental practice insurance can include cover to help protect against everyday risks – such as employee injury or illness as a result of work or damage to dental equipment due to an insured event – like a fire or flood.

But you should always check your own policy wording to understand what is included and what isn’t. It won’t cover:

  • General wear and tear or poor maintenance of equipment
  • Deliberate damage or illegal activity
  • Certain high-risk unless declared

At Bionic, we do not offer medical cover for any procedures. You may want to consider specialist cover for any dental or medical procedures that may also include professional indemnity which helps protect against incorrect advice or professional negligence.

Can I insure more than one practice under the same policy?

Yes, at Bionic we can arrange cover for all of your dental practices on one policy all your sites are protected. We can also amend scope of cover if your business changes at all.

How much do I need to insure my practice for?

The scope of your cover and how much it’ll cost will depend on your own unique business. When thinking about cover and limits, you should consider your businesses value and the full replacement value of:

  • Equipment and machinery
  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Stock and supplies
  • Potential loss of income

Once you have calculated the value of your business, a broker can help talk you through your options.
