your building has gas appliances that have been fitted badly or haven't been serviced regularly, you are putting your business at risk of gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Here are some of the main signs that you could have a gas leak and what to do if you spot one.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cobject type=\"application\u002Fkenticocloud\" premises\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>It’s important to act fast in a gas emergency and there are a few steps you need to take straight away if you smell gas: \u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n  \u003Cli>Make sure you open all doors and windows to ventilate the building and then get out in the fresh air as soon as you can. \u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>Turn off the gas emergency control valve (also called like? \u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Gas is actually odourless but has a harmless artificial scent (called mercaptan) added so it gives off that sulphur-like smell to But if your appliances are leaking carbon monoxide, this can be much more difficult to spot as it has no smell.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Carbon monoxide poisoning affects over a thousand people each year and can be fatal. But there are a few signs you should look out for, so check for the following signs that your appliances aren’t working properly: \u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n  \u003Cli>A lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one \u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>Black marks around the appliance \u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>A pilot light that keeps going out\u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>More condensation than usual on the inside of windows\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>If you think some of your equipment could be faulty, get a Gas Safe registered engineer round to take a look as soon as possible.
